Self-love conversations with Baiia Women

Self-love conversations with Baiia Women

This International Women’s Month, our focus is on the inherent strength possessed by women. We are shining a spotlight on a few inspirational women from Baiia who have generously shared their words of wisdom based on their personal life experiences.

What advice would you give to other women on their self-love journey?

Slow down. Embrace small moments and small wins. Practice gratitude for the things you love about yourself now and be gentle about the things you’re learning to.

When do you feel most confident?

When I’m performing my music.

What do you appreciate about yourself?

All of me. My ability to move. My mind and determination, my heart and its willingness to be open and let others in. Mostly my growth.

How do you make time to slow-down and give yourself some self-care?

Ohhh, well as a new mama it’s definitely been harder then before! I realise how I used to work self care in so often, multiple times a day. Now it’s more of a special ritual. In the evenings, doing mindful skincare with some candles, showers with candles and small meditations, working out with my partner. I think asking for support so I can achieve my rituals is big for me, and it doesn’t need to be a huge amount every day, just finding small moments in the stillness to love on myself.

What advice would you give to other women on their self-love journey?

The advice that I would give other women in their self-love journey is that, you were created beautiful! It might take time to unlearn certain patters that were imposed to you by society or individuals in your life, however, give yourself time to learn to love yourself, your body and the changes that you might be going through.  Once we understand why and how we were created/designed there is no comment that will move us or affect us. The inner voices that sometimes try to bring us down will be silenced.

When do you feel your most confident?

I feel most confident when I am at peace with my spirit, my soul, and my body.  When I am wearing pieces that I love and feel comfortable with.  When my skin is being taken care of.  Also, when I am working out and eating healthy.

What do you appreciate about yourself?

The things that I appreciate about myself are that, I am a fighter, persistent, and resilient woman.  There is nothing that will stop me no loss, betrayal, or misfortune. I will always raise up like an eagle.

How do you make time to slow-down and give yourself some self-care?

I make time to slow-down and give myself some self-care time at least 3 times a day.  I have alarms scheduled that remind me to do certain things that help me be centered and at peace, and to reenergize.

What advice would you give to other women on their self-love journey?

First, stop comparing yourself to others, you are unique. Celebrate what makes you special, focus on yourself and your journey. Embrace who you are, embrace your body, wear what you like, wear what makes you feel good, confident, and comfortable, that is what really makes you beautiful. Surround yourself with people you feel good with. When you have free time, be with friends who treat you well.

Also, pamper yourself! Yess, I love this! There are many ways how to do it, enjoy massages, get a manicure, pedicure, a new lipstick, go to your favorite restaurant, take a long nap, and have a bubble bath.

When do you feel your most confident?

I feel most confident when I am myself when I’m around people that make me feel comfortable being myself. By people who love and support me when I do what I love, my passion, my hobby. When I achieved my goals. I feel confident also when I do my hair when I’m wearing any outfit that make me feel beautiful and comfortable.

What do you appreciate about yourself?

To let myself learn new things every day which helps me grow. To do good things to my body at almost 50, eating healthy and trying to keep moving morning walks, and yoga. To accept myself in this moment, my “perfect imperfections” my uniqueness, and for accepting people for who they are. I appreciate myself for never giving up I appreciate myself for all the good things I have in my life… still a strong body, friends, family, and job.

How do you make time to slow-down and give yourself some self-care?

I know how important is self care now, maybe many people still think that we need a lot of time, a lot of money or expensive vacations to indulge in a little self care… Of course, that would be nice, but it’s not necessary. I spend just 30 seconds to be grateful for tiny moments in my day.

What advice would you give to other women on their self-love journey?

Firstly, don't be so hard on yourself.  Secondly, stop comparing yourself to others.  Thirdly, practice gratitude for what you do have.

When do you feel your most confident?

I feel quite comfortable and confident in my skin most of the time.  My confidence in myself no longer depends on the attitudes or responses to people around me, it is a result of self knowledge, self love and self care.

What do you appreciate about yourself?

I try to approach life with an attitude of gratitude, and I appreciate what I see as my positive attributes - I am empathetic, kind, respectful and caring.  I am also strong and capable.  There was a time when I couldn't clearly see my own qualities but with age and experience, I have been able to view myself more clearly and more kindly.

How do you make time to slow-down and give yourself some self-care?

Recently, I changed jobs and I am now working part time (for now).  That has been a game changer! I now have more time for the things that truly feed my soul. In recent years I have also embraced a minimal and slower lifestyle, where the focus is on people and not things. For example, my home is quite minimal and low maintenance, and I am quite disciplined and schedule in time for the things that are important to my well being.
